Author Guidelines

When preparing a manuscript for submission to the Editorial Office, authors should follow the rules below, developed in accordance with the requirements of Russian and international associations and organizations, including the principles and guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), ORI (Office of Research Integrity), CSE (Council of Science Editors), and EASE (European Association of Science Editors), as well as the recommendations of ANRI (Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers) and the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation (VAK).

Authors must provide complete and sufficient information about the study to ensure that the results can be reproduced.

1. Manuscript Requirements

Manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Office must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal.

By submitting a manuscript for editorial review, the authors agree to all of the following:

1.1. The manuscript may be returned to the authors if it does not comply with the journal’s requirements. The manuscript must be free from plagiarism.

1.2. The authors guarantee that the article, in whole or in part, has not been previously published and is not under consideration or in the process of publication in another journal.

1.3. If the manuscript has previously been submitted to other journals but was not accepted for publication, this must be clearly stated in the cover letter. Otherwise, the Editorial Office may misinterpret the results of the plagiarism screening and reject the manuscript.

The main article types are listed below:

1.4. Research Article
A research article is an original research manuscript. It must present a scientifically sound study and provide a significant amount of new information. The article should include the most recent and relevant references in the field. The structure must include the following sections: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions (optional).

1.5. Review Article
Review articles provide a comprehensive analysis of existing literature in a research area, identifying current gaps or challenges. Reviews should be critical and constructive and include recommendations for future research. The structure may include an abstract, keywords, introduction, relevant sections, discussion, conclusions, and future research directions.

1.6. The total length of the manuscript (research articles and review articles), including tables and references, must not exceed 40,000 characters (including spaces).

2. Submission Guidelines

2.1. Manuscripts for the journal “BRICS+: Current Agenda” must be submitted online via https://bricsplus-j.ru in English. The submitting author, usually the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript throughout submission and peer review. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors are included in the author list and that all co-authors have read and approved the submitted version. All co-authors may view the manuscript details in the submission system after registering and logging in using the email address provided during submission.

2.2. Authors are encouraged to use the Microsoft Word template for manuscript preparation. Using the template significantly reduces editing and publication time for accepted manuscripts. The total size of all submitted files must not exceed 120 MB.

2.3. The journal does not impose strict formatting requirements; however, all manuscripts must include the following mandatory sections: author information, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, conclusions, figures and tables with captions, funding information, author contributions, conflict of interest statement, and other ethical declarations.

3. References

3.1. References must be prepared in APA 7th edition (American Psychological Association) style, provided that consistent formatting is used throughout the manuscript. Each reference must include the author name(s), journal or book title, article or chapter title (if applicable), year of publication, volume and issue number (if applicable), and page range. DOIs are not mandatory but are strongly recommended. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, or Reference Manager.

3.2. Once the manuscript reaches the editing stage, authors will be asked to format the manuscript according to the journal’s guidelines.

3.3. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter. The cover letter should be concise and explain why the study is significant, placing its findings in the context of existing research. It should also explain why the manuscript fits the scope of the journal. All cover letters must include the following statement: “We confirm that neither the manuscript nor any part of its content is currently under consideration for publication or has been published in another journal. All authors have approved the manuscript and agree to its submission to the journal "BRICS+: Current Agenda".”

4. Manuscript Structure

4.1. Research manuscripts must include:

  • Title, list of authors, affiliations, abstract, and keywords;

  • Main sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions (optional);

  • Final sections: supplementary materials, acknowledgements, author contributions, conflicts of interest, references.

4.2. Review manuscripts must include:

  • Title, list of authors, affiliations, abstract, and keywords;

  • Review sections: a literature review logically organized into sections and subsections (optional);

  • Final sections: acknowledgements, author contributions, conflicts of interest, references.

5. Copyright and Licensing

All rights to the article belong to the authors. Authors grant the journal publisher the right to use the article, including open access publication, under the non-exclusive license specified below (Author Agreement – Public Offer). All copyright remains with the authors.
